Fornax Dwarf Galaxy Globular Clusters

One of the oddest observing experiences is to observe a handful of globular clusters that reside in a galaxy around 530,000 light years away… while the galaxy itself stays resolutely invisible. Not even the mistiest hint of the parent galaxy – the Fornax Dwarf galaxy – was visible.

A Few Pals

The intriguing 15 Palomar globular clusters were discovered on the survey plates of the first Palomar Observatory Sky Survey in the 1950s, and all but two had never been seen before.

Globular clusters are among my favourite deep-sky objects. To me, these beautiful swarms of ancient stars are the most stirring and beautiful sights in our skies. They are full of wondrous light and a sense of movement.
